Speeding up your metabolism in the morning

Posted on 11/04/2013

A lot of people have been asking us here at the Fitnessgarage for tips and ways to lose some weight outside of working out. Well, dieting plays a key role in our ability to lose weight. According to scientists in Germany and Canada, when you roll out of bed in the morning, drink 16 ounces of chilled H2O (the volume in a typical consumer bottle) this will raise your metabolism by 30 percent : That same study found that the metabolic boost lasted for up to 90 minutes after people took their last sips.

Posted on 10/10/2013

Here at Fitnessgarage we can give you at least two great reasons to keep moving!

1. Improves or maintains memory, slows Alzheimer's, and more:
A recent Japanese study shows that combining Aerobic + Strength + Balance exercises into a training program may improve memory in people. So you'll notice we have modified our classes to include all three types of exercise. Other recent research shows that one of the best ways to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's through lifestyle changes is to just be physically active on a regular basis, two to three times per week: walk, bicycle, swim, life weights, stretch, and tone.

Suzuki, T., Shimada, H., Makizako, Takehiko, D. Yoshida, D., Tsutsumimoto, K., Anan, Y., Uemura, K., Lee, S., and Park, H. (2012) Effects of multicomponent exercise on cognitive function in older adults with amnestic mild cognitive impairment: a randomized control trial. BMC Neurology 12:128.

He also got insight from some well-known olympic athletes on their training methods, which he will certainly be sure to apply in his workouts at the Fitnessgarage.
